The Technology for Future and Ageing Pipelines Conference

The Technology for Future and Ageing Pipelines Conference is aimed at sharing knowledge and featuring the latest achievements relative to the assessment, use, and maintenance of both ageing high-pressure (cross-country/offshore) transmission and ageing low-pressure distribution gas and oil pipeline systems.

Mar 29, 2022 - Mar 31, 2022
Target groups: skilled tradesmen, engineers, technicians, personnel in pipeline management, decision makers
Category: Conference

As a guideline for potential authors, the following themes will be covered at the conference: in-line inspection, test requirements, codes, girth welds, data management, and fatigue, among other topics. A parallel theme will be to explore the latest technology for materials and welding for new pipelines to ensure they are designed for a maximum effective operational lifetime.

In 1874 Jules Verne wrote in his book The Mysterious Island: “Yes, my friends, I am convinced that water will one day be used as fuel and that hydrogen…will be an inexhaustible source of heat and light!" He was a visionary but now gets it right. But why only now? And what role will hydrogen play in a sustainable energy system?

Hydrogen, just like electricity, is not an energy source but an energy carrier, but why do we need that energy carrier?

In this keynote presentation, Professor Ad van Wijk will discuss this system role of hydrogen and how hydrogen can be made, transported, stored and used.

The 3-day conference will feature 60+ presentations from leading industry experts covering topics such as:

  • integrity assessment, inspection and management
  • fracture and fatigue testing
  • numerical modelling of pipeline mechanical behaviour
  • facture arrest
  • pipeline welding, including girth and seam weld inspection
  • and more!

This year's conference also features a full 1-day stream focused on hydrogen research and change of use, curated by the European Pipeline Research Group (EPRG).
